Vases of the finest quality or delightful plates for home decor have brightened the homes of the aristocracy, rice bowls have held the food of farmers, and in more recent times, electricity has been transported across the country thanks to ceramic insulators produced in Bat Trang. In the area of arts and antics, Bat Trang ceramics are famous in various places in the world and are displayed in the museums of many countries including Japan, the Philippines, France, Belgium and Turkey.

Location: Bat Trang Pottery Village is located in the south east of Hanoi, passing Chuong Duong Bridge turns right and go about 10km along the dike of Red River. Bat Trang belongs to Bat Trang Commune, Gia Lam District, Hanoi, Vietnam.

Among the 30 units producing and trading ceramics in Bat Trang, the most famous is probably Quang Ceramic Co., Ltd., managed by Mrs. Ha Thi Vinh.

 Mrs. Vinh was luckily born and grew up in Bat Trang village where she naturally acquired the knowledge, traditional experience and techniques of ceramic production. In 1989, she created a ceramic workshop where 10 people were working to produce for export companies. Parallel to that, she started to learn about international business. And in 1994, in the new context of market oriented economy, she decided to create the Quang Vinh Ceramic Co., Ltd for the purpose of exporting products.

Với ưu điểm giảm tiêu hao nhiên liệu, chi phí sản xuất và tiết kiệm thời gian nung, lò gas đang là lựa chọn của các doanh nghiệp gốm. Tuy nhiên, làng nghề Bát Tràng hiện vẫn còn khoảng 150 lò nung than gây ô nhiễm môi trường cần thay thế.

Bát Tràng cách Hà Nội có 20km mà đến hôm nay tôi mới có dịp về thăm. Sau một hồi mải mê ngắm nghía các sản phẩm trong chợ Gốm, được tự tay làm những chiếc cốc xinh xinh, chúng tôi theo chân chị hướng dẫn vào thăm ngôi làng cổ.

Xã hội phát triển, đổi thay bước đi trên mọi nẻo đường của Tổ quốc. Đây đó, trên mảnh đất Việt thân thương, vẫn còn lưu lại nhiều làng quê với những làng nghề đặc sắc góp phần tô điểm cho sự đa dạng, phong phú của văn hóa dân tộc.

Mấy chục năm nay ngày nào, mùa nào, tháng nào chợ cũng nhộn nhịp. Hôm nay tôi cũng vác balô trên vai, chụp cái mũ rộng vành lên đầu, hoà vào “chợ người” Bát Tràng để tìm việc.
